The Catherine T. Murray Memorial Scholarship was established in 1995 by Catherine Murray, a long-time educator and also a board member and valued volunteer at the Ocean State Center for Independent Living. It was her wish to support the philosophy and spirit of OSCIL through a scholarship that gives people with disability access to higher education.
Grants of $1000+ are awarded to help students with a disability to continue their education past high school. Scholarship funds can be used for educational expenses such as tuition or the purchase of textbooks. They may also be used to obtain assistive/adaptive equipment or devices that aid the student in meeting their educational goals.
Selection Criteria:
To qualify for this scholarship applicants must:
- be a Rhode Island resident
- have a significant disability
- plan to attend a college, technical school, or a trade/vocational program in the upcoming academic year
Preference is based on career goals, merit, and economic need.
